How-To Article: Automatically create Mailchimp subscribers from new Gumroad Sales with Zapier

If you have ever wanted to send contact information from Gumroad sales to Mailchimp to keep in touch with them, you can now do that with the help of Zapier. Here's what you'll need to get started:

  • A Zapier account - https://zapier.com
  • A Mailchimp account - It helps if you have already created the list you want to add subscribers to
  • An Gumroad account - It also helps to have created a test sale beforehand

In Zapier

First you'll want to start creating a zap that takes Gumroad sales and sends them to Mailchimp as Subscribers. Click the 'Learn More' below to get started, then 'Start using this' to create that zap.

1

Next you'll be put into the zap editor to finish configuring the zap. You can continue to Step 2, where you'll connect your Gumroad account. In that step you'll give that account a name(this is only for recognizing it in Zapier). From there you'll get a pop-up asking you to log-in and/or allow Zapier access to your account. Click to 'Allow'.

2

Step 3 is doing the same thing for Mailchimp. Provide a name for the account, then you'll get a pop-up asking to log-in to allow access.

3

Once your accounts are connected you can move on to Step 4, where you'll pick a product in Gumroad Gumroad you want your zap to monitor sales from. You can also add custom filters, if you only want sales that meet certain criteria to get sent to Mailchimp. This link has more on that process: https://zapier.com/help/creating-zap/#step-4-filters

Step 5 is the meat of your zap, where you decide what info from Gumroad gets passed along to Mailchimp. To start, specify the Mailchimp list where the new subscribers will be created from the dropdown. From there, the basic fields(like Email) are taken care of, but you can customize it and fill in any custom fields by using the 'Insert Fields' button. More on that process here: https://zapier.com/help/creating-zap/#step-5-creating-the-action

4

After Step 5 you'll have the chance to test that zap out with sales from your Gumroad account. You can click on the samples to see the data you get from Gumroad, and what info exactly will be sent to Mailchimp.

5

The last step is to name your zap and turn it on! Now, contact information from your Gumroad sales will end up as subscribers without any extra work!
